Alina DePalma releases Point Boro ice hockey video

December 2, 2012

The Point Boro ice hockey team had a magical season in 2012.

That is probably one reason, Alina DePalma, the daughter of Point Boro ice hockey coach Alex DePalma, decided to make a video to recap the year.

Last year, the Point Boro head ice hockey navigated through the state playoffs as an underdog ranked number 21 in the Public B section of the state playoffs and went on to overachieve, reaching the quarterfinal round until being knocked out by the eventual state champion, Summit, 4-0.

After four sub-par seasons, the Panthers have compiled a 18-4-3 record. This includes tying the Gordon division’s Pope John XXIII Regional, and wins over St. Rose and Rumson.

Point Boro also won the 2011 Winding River Holiday Tournament in Toms River earlier in the season with a 4-2 victory over the Crimson Knights of Wall.

Also, more importantly, during the season on Sundays when most high school students were sleeping in from a long week of school, DePalma encouraged his team to wake up at 7:30 a.m. to help out with the Brick Challenger Program, which enables special needs children to experience the joy, competition and teamwork that are such unique parts of playing hockey. The team dealt with players who never had the opportunity to suit up and play before. This led the team to be honored from NJ First Lady Mary Pat Christie at the Ocean Ice Palace in Brick earlier this year.

For more on the Point Boro ice hockey team, be sure to watch Alina DePalma’s video above. Also the 2012-2013 Point Boro ice hockey preview story will be released in Friday’s issue of The Ocean Star.
