Panthers win B South

October 23, 2012

On Monday, Point Boro senior Kellen O’Hara had a chance to go on a class trip to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford to see where the New York Giants play.

After deliberating the allure of traveling with his friends during the school day, though, he said no thanks to the appealing offer.

Instead, O’Hara had a much more important task to accomplish that day — the Panthers boys soccer team played for a B South division title with a game against the Barnegat Bengals on the road.

Skipping the trip paid off when O’Hara scored two goals to lead the the Panthers to a 4-1 victory.

“I was thinking about it all week, of whether or not I should go on the class trip,” he said. “I figured a division championship was much more important.”

O’Hara scored the first goal when he kicked the ball 25 yards deep over the keeper’s head inside the far post to make the score 1-0. He also scored the last goal of the game, when he snuck behind the Bengals defense uncovered and kicked the ball into the net to make the score 4-1.
