Postgame notebook: Beach football bests Highland Park

October 22, 2012

All three senior running backs for the Point Beach Garnet Gulls scored touchdowns in a 49-23 road win over Highland Park High School. Danny Tighe rushed for three touchdowns, Andre Cochran had two, and Kyle Samaritano finished with one. Also, sophomore quarterback Jake Fioretti tossed the ball to senior tight end Bill Barry to put the Gulls ahead 42-7 at the half. Here is what Point Beach coach John Wagner had to say following the game.

On getting off to a slow start…

The thing is we started on a 3 o’clock, Saturday game. 12 o’clock is more the norm and 3 o’clock is just an extension of the day. We started off a little crazy. Then, we got things going and got off into the flow of our game.

On whether social media, the internet or predictions has any affect on the team maybe becoming too comfortable…

Nothing to do with. I will never blame blogs. I will never blame predictions.

On the rest of the schedule…

The bottom line is every game for the rest of our season has a meaning to it. The game against Keyport we are playing for home-seeded game. Then we have the week off, which is great. Then, we got the playoffs (and if we beat Keyport), we are playing for a (division) championship. Everything means something the rest of the way out.
