Postgame Notebook: Panthers beat Bengals

October 19, 2012

Point Boro held Barnegat scoreless in the second half to pull off a 23-13 win at Al Saner Stadium, tonight. Point Boro senior running back Ryan Prout and senior wide receiver Kyle McGarry both scored touchdowns. Brett Blank was 3-for-4 on field goals and made two extra points. Senior defensive back Chris Oliphant and senior linebacker Kurt Van Benschoten both had interceptions in the game. Here is the postgame quotes following the game from McGarry and Point Boro head coach Sean Henry.

Sean Henry

On Kyle McGarry…

He is our playmaker and Chris (Oliphant) threw some good balls to him. When it is third and long he is our guy. It is no secret. Whenever we throw him the ball and it doesn’t go well we tell him we are going right back to him. He said to the coaches that he will make a play tonight and he did that.

On playing well in the second half…

Being in some tough games our kids are starting to get battle tested. They played some Point Boro football in the second half. We played tough defense and ran the ball well on offense. I think we took a big step as a program tonight. Especially in all three phases. Our special teams, defense and offense all played well tonight.

On moving forward…

We got some momentum going. We are going to enjoy it tonight and we will be right back tomorrow morning getting ready for Jackson L:iberty.

On what motivated the team…

We did not forget losing to them in the state playoffs last year. They broke our hearts. We couldn’t lose again to them.

On making some big plays…

Last couple games we couldn’t get the throwing going and I needed to step up and make big plays. I have been getting down on myself. But, that all behind me tonight kept going forward.

On always being the player to go to on third and long…

I like that. Before the play comes in I know I am getting the ball. I know I have to make a play.

On the importance of picking up a win tonight…

For power points it is huge and if one team knocks off MonDon we are back in it for the division. Right now, we want to get into the state playoffs and win a state championship. That is our goal. We have a huge game against Jackson Liberty next week.
