Flaherty, Mabrey NJSIAA Eligibility hearing date moved

October 17, 2012

Recent transfers Katelynn Flaherty and Marina Mabrey from the 2012 Tournament of Champions Manasquan girls team to Point Beach NJSIAA hearing date on athletic eligibility moved from Nov. 7. to Nov. 13.

A hearing with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association [NJSIAA] has been scheduled for November after the Manasquan principal and athletic director refused to sign the form to grant a transfer request, citing academic advantage as a reason.

According to the NJSIAA, athletic advantage is defined as, but not limited to, seeking a superior athletic team, seeking relief due to a conflict with the philosophy or action of an administrator, teacher or coach relating to sports, seeking a team consistent with the student’s athletic abilities or seeking a means to nullify punitive action by the previous school.
