Postgame notebook: Blue Devils defeat Gulls

October 16, 2012

Senior Nicole Meyer and junior Haley Ray scored on senior night at C.J. Hesse Memorial Field, but it was not enough for the Point Beach girls soccer team to get past Shore Regional, yesterday. Here is what Point Beach head coach Adam Curtis said following the 4-2 loss.

On Shore Regional arriving late to the game…

“I think we were a bit out of sorts because we warmed up because we waited a long time for them. That is not an excuse, but we fell asleep and gave up two quick goals.”

On needing to play more like a team…

“We didn’t communicate well today. We played well it spurts, but it was in spurts. At times, we were the best team out there and they could not touch us. Other times we made careless mistakes. When you put yourself in a hole against good teams — two goals down — you are playing catch up and it is hard. It is a rare you come back to the game and win it.

On the senior class…

“They are tremendous. They are very good leaders on practice and on the field [in the game]. They are going to be missed greatly next year but I think with the amount of young girls we have now, they set a good base and know how we want to play.
