Postgame notebook: Point Boro football vs. Asbury Park

September 30, 2012

The Point Boro football team was held to just 64 rushing yards and 81 through the air, which accumulated to only four first downs against the Asbury Park Blue Bishops on Saturday, leading to a  24-14 road loss. The Asbury Park offense ran 75 plays for 383 total yards. The defeat will hurt Point Boro in power points for the state tournament. Here is what head coach Sean Henry had to say following the game.

On poor run blocking and a burned secondary…

We drastically need to improve. Our run game today was ineffective. That goes for the guys up front, in the backfield and on the edge. On defense we were able to stop the run but our secondary struggled.  You have to give Asbury (Park) credit for getting the win today.

On being ready to play…

We lacked intensity since the time we got off the bus. That carried in the game. Then, they scored before the half and that carried in the locker room. We made some adjustments and just didn’t execute.

On moving forward…

We are back to the drawing board and we have a big B South stretch now. We just got to fix things. It is starts with me as the head coach and trickles down to the coaching staff and the senior leadership. Our kids are not the kind that are going to take this loss and feel sorry for themselves. We got a MonDon team, a team we had a tough loss to last year. Our kids are going to have no problem finding motivation.
