Postgame notebook: Point Boro football vs. Central Regional

September 21, 2012

The Point Boro football team defeated Central Regional 20-14 on the road tonight. The Panthers starting quarterback Chris Oliphant scored one touchdown on a quarterback sneak. Point Boro also had two defensive touchdowns. Here is what Point Boro head coach Sean Henry had to say about the win…

On starting the season 3-0…

I tell you what, it was not the prettiest win and there were a lot of times our kids could have folded. But, when things got tough, our kids made plays. Chris (Oliphant) made plays and so did our defense. It was a total team effort. I am just happy for our kids to get out of here 3-0.

On the significance of top Point Boro running back Ryan Prout leaving the game with a leg injury…

It is huge. Ryan (Prout) is one of our captains and is a team leader. I haven’t got a chance to talk to him or our trainer but I am just hoping for the best. He is a huge part of our offense, defense and special teams.

On the team defense…

We play to the whistle and don’t stop. That is how our kids were able to make two huge plays. Inevitably that was the difference in the ball game. We had a non-stop motor and flew to the ball.”

On not wanting to get the ball back to Central Regional…

We left it all out of the table. Unfortunately, we gave them some opportunities. At the end of the game we went to our quarterback (Chris Oliphant) — our leader. He did a great job finishing the game off. But overall it was a total team effort.

On playing Asbury Park next week…

Our schedule from here on out is going to be a dogfight every week. We haven’t looked at Asbury a lot yet, but we will. We are going to get better. We will be prepared.
